The latest in a series of big moves for leading Colorado Springs datacenter

applelogoData102 announced today that it has directly peered with Apple to improve service for Colorado Springs businesses and residents. Data102’s customers will be able to use popular Apple services like iTunes, Apple TV, iCloud, and iLife with much less latency and connectivity issues than are common with some other colocation service providers.

“We’ve already seen the benefits,” said Randal Kohutek, Data102 Operations VP. “Traffic is taking a shorter path, with lower latency. Not only does this provide better service to Apple users, it also opens up capacity on the network for general use. It’s a win-win for all of our customers.”

Data102 was able to improve service by connecting directly with IPv4 and next generation IPv6 Apple networks in Denver and Los Angeles. The direct links and redundant networking mean less lag for users and a better experience overall.

“As an Apple user myself,” noted Kohutek, “I’m glad to offer such a high level of service to our new and existing customers—something no one else in our market can.”

This is the second major partnership announced by Data102 this year. In May, they announced a deal with Netflix that dramatically improved streaming from the entertainment giant and opened up bandwidth for all users. And they aren’t done yet.

Kohutek concludes, “I look forward to finding and peering with relevant content providers to continue to push the envelope on what our customers can expect from their network.”

Data102 Peers with Netflix to Improve Local Streaming Service

Colorado Springs data center announces private peering with the Internet’s largest video streaming company

NetflixData102 announced today that they have peered with streaming giant Netflix to bring faster service to southern Colorado residents. As demand for video streaming has increased dramatically over the last few years, so has the need for adequate bandwidth to accommodate the massive amounts of data being used, especially in the evenings, as more and more people stay home to watch movies and their favorite TV shows.

Netflix has 35.65 million subscribers in the US alone who spend over 1 billion hours per month streaming video. A lot of bandwidth is necessary to meet that demand. “What we have found,” said Randal Kohutek, Operations Director at Data102,” is that we can provide our customers with a faster connection during peak hours by working directly with Netflix instead of going through a backbone carrier like AT&T or Level3.” To accomplish this, Data102 has run a 10 gigabit connection straight to Netflix, which means Data102 customers will see uninterrupted streaming—even during evenings midweek when demand spikes.

This private peering deal with Netflix is the latest example of Data102’s willingness to make big investments in infrastructure to meet the needs of its growing customer base. Data102 is southernColorado’s leading data center and IT service provider. They are focused on providing the highest level of service possible, which they continue to do with private peering, state-of-the-art power and cooling systems, top-rated technology, and frequent technical upgrades. In a quickly changing digital landscape, Data102 consistently meets the expanding needs of its customers by making the investments necessary to ensure fast, reliable internet service and unparalleled customer service.

Data102 Turns Up Peering With CoreSite’s Any2 Exchange

Any2 Exchange Logo

The Colorado Springs datacenter announces direct peering with Any2, the second largest Internet peering exchange in the USA and the largest Internet exchange on the west coast. Peering, or connecting separate networks in order to exchange IP traffic, will increase traffic capacity, routing control and overall performance and efficiency

any2-exchange-77603521“Data102’s decision to peer with Any2 in Los Angeles is going to yield benefits for the clients at our Colorado Springs datacenter,” states Randal Kohutek, Operations Director at Data102, “by peering with Any2, Data102’s network will be faster and more stable, improving latency and fault tolerance.”

Peering, in the realm of computer networking, is when a connection is established between administratively separate networks. The purpose of peering is to exchange IP traffic between those networks. Peering benefits both companies involved in the interconnection, as it increases the routing control. Moreover, the users of each network participating in the exchange will benefit since peering increases a network’s capacity and increases overall performance, decreasing the amount of network hops for a direct connection to more routes.

Colorado datacenter Data102 is peering with Any2, the largest Internet Exchange on the west coast and the second largest Internet peering exchange in the United States. Any2 is a layer 2, IPv6-supporting, physical network switch that streamlines the exchange of Internet traffic between Internet service providers (ISPs) and content networks. Any2 is owned and operated by CoreSite and has over 200 participants locally and internationally.

Data102 is dedicated to providing an outstanding level of service, which is why, in addition to peering, power and cooling are combined with top-rated technology in order to drive both of the Data102 datacenters. Data102’s Colorado colocation is designed to further fulfill business IT needs, implementing a fast and reliable network that is up and running at least 99.999 percent of the time.

In addition to a fast and stable network aided by peering with CoreSite’s Any2 switch, Data102 remains up-to-date with frequent technical upgrades, and offers a range of IT products and services for various businesses throughout Colorado and beyond.
